The Vision of Xploration Centre
Gordy & Sukhi Bal were inspired to create Xploration Centre for their own three children.
Gordy has been an entrepreneur for as long as he can remember; finding things that are broken, and bringing together a team of conscious and talented people to fix them. Sukhi is a counsellor and coach, passionate about guiding people back to themselves, helping them tune into their innate wisdom and experience the magic of life.
For the past 8 years, Gordy and Sukhi have been immersed in the most beautiful and challenging journey of their lives: Parenthood. These three vibrant souls have been their greatest teachers and awakeners.
Before we had children, we didn’t fully understand how each spirit comes into this world with their own unique brilliance. Being witness to how our three boys have such diverse gifts, we felt uneasy putting them into an education system that only recognized a couple of types of intelligences, worked for one particular learning style and generally stifled curiosity and creativity by making everyone fit into one box.
We were also very present to the world that our children were coming into: climate crisis, social unrest, culture-wide disconnection and dissatisfaction and rapid exponential technology growth. How could we best prepare our children for the world that is emerging while still honouring the sacredness of childhood?
A new kind of school.
Gordy and Sukhi envisioned a school where their children would gain the tools needed to navigate the emerging world, while honouring their unique genius and innate gifts.
Where educators would be guides for their children, fostering their natural curiosity and inviting them to follow their passions and purpose.
Where cultivating children’s deep connection to nature - the greatest teacher of all - was integral.
Where the space their children spent the majority of the day would be mindful and intuitive.
Where their children would learn through love, rather than fear.
The journey to Xploration Centre.
A vision was born to do what had never been done: flip the education system on its head, and create a new future of education.
They set out to learn as much as possible, and amongst the many thought leaders they learned from, discovered Dr. Shefali and her work on Conscious Parenting. Her body of work resonated like no other, showing them how these beautiful children are portals to expand our own consciousness when we allow them to be our teachers.
Inspired by their vision, Dr. Shefali introduced them to Phillip Moore, an education pioneer and 42 year headmaster at Upland Hills School, a love-based, nature-centred school in Michigan. Their own grand vision was suddenly met with the wisdom and mentorship of master educator and someone who had lived the reality of bringing to life a new paradigm school for many years.
Through their support, Xploration Centre was born, and with it emerged a community of like minded parents, educators, and change-makers who all wanted to create a better future for their children.
The vision garnered attention from global leaders such as Gabor Mate and Deepak Chopra, who truly believed in the mission for a new kind of education. Gordy and Sukhi are humbled to be portals for the vision to come through, and are so grateful for everyone who has been a part of the mission.
